It’s kitten season and the volunteers at the shelters and rescues will soon be awash in cuteness, but baby kittens take a lot of care. Learn how to care for orphaned kittens and bottle babies, what to do if you find a litter of kittens, how to socialize kittens and more, at the Kitten Fostering Workshop, Saturday April 22 from Noon to 2 PM, at the Mendocino Animal Care Services Ukiah Shelter. Because it is kitten season, it is more important that ever to spay and neuter your pets!
There are several groups available to help with spay and neuter expenses, and some low-cost clinics coming up. In Mendocino County, contact SNAP on their Facebook Page or apply for assistance on their website. In Lake County, check out FIX Lake 
County’s (an initiative by Orphan Dog) upcoming BIG FIX Day June 10 & 11. Volunteer veterinarians and techs will be available for free and low-cost spay and neuter surgeries. Apply at the FIX Lake County Facebook Page or donate to FIX Lake County at their Gofundme page. FIX Lake County is also looking for volunteers to help out during the BIG FIX – contact them through their Facebook page if you are able to help.
Also, a big thank you to Dr Jeff Smith and the staff at Middletown Animal Hospital! On March 22, MAH, with help from Orphan Dog, held a “Spay Day” and fixed over 22 pets for low income families. Read about it here …
