The August Farnam special is SandClear – buy a 10# bucket of SandClear Psyllium Pellets and get a FREE 3# tub!
If your horse nibbles off the ground – and what horse doesn’t? – you should be feeding psyllium to prevent sand colic. Horses ingest sand or dirt which accumulates in the large intestine and colon, which causes irritation of the intestinal lining and can impact or obstruct the normal function of the intestines, causing colic. Preventing sand colic can be as easy as feeding a psyllium product every month. Learn more about Sand Colic and how to prevent it with this detailed article from University of Arizona Cooperative Extension, Preventing Sand Colic. Then come into Rainbow Ag to save on easy-to-feed SandClear!

What’s on your horse-related bucket list? For many, it is the experience of Horse Camping. Horse camping with your horse can be an incredible adventure—full of scenic trail rides, peaceful nights under the stars, and a special kind of bonding that only happens when you’re out there depending on each other. It’s a chance to step beyond the arena or home pasture and discover what you and your horse can do as a team. With a little planning and preparation, your trip can be a fun, memorable experience you’ll want to repeat again and again!
There are basically two types of horse camping – taking day-rides from a base camp, usually where your truck, trailer and supplies are, or packing into a wilderness area where everything you have is with you and your horses. Consider it the difference between car camping and backpacking. Both take preparation to be fun and safe, with slightly different needs. Either way, going with some experience friends the first time can be a big help! Luckily here in Lake and Mendocino Counties, we have some wonderful horse camping locations, including Jackson State Forest and Mendocino National Forest and Cache Creek Cowboy Camp over to the east. Some California State Parks also have facilities for horse camping.
Some of the preparation involves feed and containment for your horse. Most horse camps prefer (and some require) that you bring weed-seed free hay or pellets, to avoid introducing invasive plants into the wilderness. Elk Grove Milling Stable Mix is certified weed-free in convenient pellet form, with formulas for Adult or Senior horses. There are several options for containment systems, from portable fencing to high-lines or hobbles. Get prepared and load up your trailer for an adventure of a lifetime with your horse.
