The excitement is building for the Redwood Empire Fair, which runs from July 31 through August 3, in Ukiah at the Redwood Empire Fairgrounds. Rainbow has been welcoming youth exhibitors from 4-H and FFA, who are bringing their “Buyer Letters” of introduction into the store. While the most visible Junior Auction animals are the large market animals – beef, swine and sheep – there is a lot more going on with the Junior Exhibitors! Did you know there are also competitions for Dogs, Rabbits, Cavy, Pygmy Goats, and Dairy Goats? (Usually there is a variety of Poultry too – but this year the Poultry show has been canceled due to Avian Flu.)

One of the most fun events is the Round Robin Showmanship. In Round Robin, each of the highest placing show-men-and-women display their skill at handling different types of animals. Large Animal Round Robin competitors must handle a horse, beef, swine, sheep and goat. The Small Animal Round Robin handlers must be skilled on showing Rabbits, Cavy, Dogs and Pygmy Goats. Every type of animal has it’s own rules for proper showmanship, so these young exhibitors learn how safely and correctly handle animals that they might not usually deal with. It can be a fun and educational event! Large and small animal Round Robin takes place on Friday evening, August 1 at 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM in the Racine Pavilion. Come on down to the Fair and join Rainbow Ag in supporting our local youth exhibitors!
