Does your horse need a blanket? There’s always some debate on that question, and the truth is yes, SOME horses need a blanket! Healthy horses who grow a natural coat, and have access to shelter and plenty of hay, usually are fine without blanketing, though if you are riding through the winter or going to competitions, then a blanket can be useful. But, if your horse is elderly, sick, injured or underweight a blanket is recommended. Clipped horses will need one to replace the hair that has been removed, and a horse recently imported from a warmer climate may not grow enough winter coat.
